DNV_GL approved bolted sea fastening for W2W-system reducing mobilization time
For one of our long term customers providing Walk to Work systems (W2W) for the renewables and offshore industry Royal Roos provided a bolted sea fastening design that strongly reduced the time to mobilize a W2W-system on an offshore vessel. The clips to sea fasten the structure are normally welded which could take 1 - 3 days, especially when allowing for a cooling down period of 24 or 48 hours for NDT purposes. Furthermore, it requires flame cutting and afterwards grinding to remove the welded clips. The bolted sea fastening using “bricks” takes just 2 - 3 hours without the need for NDT. Removal is just as easy by unbolting the “bricks”.
Our design (the “Brick-design”) consists of a welded and machined countersunk bottom plate welded to the supporting structure (deck or pedestal) to keep the W2W-system safely in place using shims. The “bricks” are then bolted down on top and pre-tensioned.
The “Brick-design” comes as a complete package: engineering and fabrication of the “Brick-design” sea fastening plate.
