We’ve got the Power!

Royal Roos awarded subsidy from REACT EU program for development shore power connection for seagoing vessels at Merwehaven, Rotterdam.

With 1.500 m2 of solar panels on the roof of building De Werkplaats and a 1.000 kVA trafo, Royal Roos is developing a shore power connection for seagoing vessels that berth at Merwehaven east side in Rotterdam. Investing in the future of greener shipping.

The project has been awarded a REACT EU subsidy from the ‘Kansen voor West’ partnership program of the European Fund for Regional Development. The REACT EU programme is part of the EU’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, stimulating green, digital and resilient recovery of regional economies.

Royal Roos aims to provide shore power to seagoing vessels within the 400/440/690V and 50/60Hz range and a combined power demand of maximum 500kW. Battery containers can provide extra power for peak demand.

On sunny days the power supply will be generated via the 1.500 m2 roof based solar panels. On cloudy days and at night 100% wind generated power from the net will be provided.

The power connection can also be used to load battery containers, e-trucks, etc..

Merwehaven east side allows mooring for vessels up to 225m long, 30m wide and maximum 40.000 ton deadweight. Harbour depth is -9.65 NAP.
