Letter of Intent (LOI) to jointly develop a retrofittable air layer drag reduction system

Royal Roos and Marine Bubble Flow have agreed to enter into a collaboration to develop, test, market and deploy MBF’s retrofittable air layer drag reduction system (ALDS). This globally patented system relies on a new combination of fluid dynamics and air-based fluidics technology to allow controlled injection and release of air bubbles into the boundary layer around vessels.

The expectation is that the fully developed MBF system will materially reduce the drag, by up to 30%, and therefore the fuel consumption and emissions of vessels, by up to 15%.

This collaboration brings together Royal Roos’ systems integration, advance manufacturing (3D-printing) and maritime services capabilities with MBF’s innovative fluid dynamic and fluidics know-how, to create an industry leading drag reduction system that will improve the profitability of shipping and reduce the environmental footprint of the maritime industry.
